Ben Frost’s first solo show in Sydney in 3 years, “Lost in the Supermarket”.
Thursday, November 26, 2009 at 6:00am at the Boutwell Draper Gallery in Sydney.
‘Australian artist Ben Frost is known for his kaleidoscopic Pop Art, mash-up paintings that take inspiration from areas as diverse as graffiti, collage, photorealism and sign-writing. Subverting mainstream iconography from the worlds of advertising, antertainment and politics, he creates a visual framework that is bold, confrontational and often controversial. With a blatant disrespect for the signifiers of our visual culture, Ben Frost creates multi-layered surfaces of refreshing intensity.’

I take photos because I need to. I see something, I start thinking “how should I frame it, what light will I need, what emotion am I trying to bring out of it?” Its more a hobby, than a commercial endeavor.

“Today in Trends and Products, the product is the city and the trend is the growing awareness of the importance of branding cities. We know what it means to develop a brand for a consumable or a service like a new line of clothing or an airline. But how do you go about developing a brand for a city, or indeed a nation?”
