Task Focused
Rob Cordiner grew up in a leafy pocket of Hobart, Tasmania. Studying a mix of graphic design, photography, printmaking & billiards. Before moving to London where he worked for the Ebeling Group, Now he’s heading back to Aus for a while and makes Melbourne his new base.

What have you been up to lately?
I’ve been working on a few music based design projects, including another 12″ on Fine Day Records, as well as a handful of identity projects. The start of this year has really been more about planning & preparation for the upcoming months though – there’s some exciting stuff in the pipeline which involves the recent purchase of a 6 colour silkscreen carousel, amongst other things. Looking forward to getting that one up and running!
How would you describe your own work?
Tough question: often type-centric, sometimes cryptic, sometimes bold, sometimes humourous, sometimes irrelevant, sometimes broad, sometimes niche. Is that an answer? I feel like a might have a more definitive response for this in a years time perhaps.

How has your work been inspired by the Australian environment?
It’s a diverse, unique & beautiful place to live – can’t ask for much more than that really.
Where do you find inspiration?
Music is an endless source, digging through dusty piles of vintage magazines & ephemera
is always a great refresher also. Skateboarding and it’s surrounding cultures have always been a huge influence in so many ways, whether graphic, music, fashion etc – I’m pretty sure that 93.2% of my record collection can somehow be traced back to artists discovered in skate video soundtracks. My friends are constantly inspiring & keeping things moving also of course…
Do you have a favourite artist, or artists?
Countless faves but here’s a few that spring to mind: Alan Fletcher, Saul Steinberg, Piet Mondrian, Kevin Lyons, Saul Bass, Geoff Mcfetridge, P.A.M, Fergadelic, The Girl/Chocolate Art Dump, Trevor Jackson, Herb Lubalin…

What can we expect to see from you in the future?
A clothing label by the name of “Peer Pressure”, collaboration with my girlfriend on her project “HOPS”,a bigger push into typographic illustration & image making, along with a whole lot of printmaking. Hopefully a successful first attempt at making home brew also.
